About Sierra Calderona Natural Park

Sierra Calderona Natural Park, located northwest of Valencia in the Valencian Community, spans a mountainous landscape characterized by rugged limestone peaks, deep canyons, and dense Mediterranean forest. The park stretches over approximately 17,000 hectares and forms part of the Iberian System mountain range, featuring its highest peak, El Garbí, which rises to 907 meters. The terrain includes steep cliffs, karst formations, and scattered agricultural terraces, reflecting centuries of human influence blended with natural preservation. The ecology is dominated by Aleppo pines, holm oaks, and Mediterranean shrublands, providing habitat for numerous bird species such as the Bonelli’s eagle and peregrine falcon, as well as mammals like wild boar and foxes. Historically, the area contains ancient archaeological sites, including Iberian settlements and watchtowers from different eras, highlighting its longstanding strategic and cultural importance. Outdoor enthusiasts are attracted to Sierra Calderona for its extensive network of hiking and mountain biking trails, scenic viewpoints, and opportunities for rock climbing and birdwatching. El Garbí viewpoint offers spectacular vistas over the Valencian plain and the Mediterranean Sea.
